In honor of the 9/11 National Day of Service and Remembrance, Everybody Wins! Iowa will be holding a Book Drive. From September 7-11, Everybody Wins! Iowa will be collecting elementary-level books to be given to children in need in the Des Moines Public Schools. Books should be appropriate for children in 2nd - 5th grades and should be new or slightly used. Please donate books at one of the following collection sites: Des Moines Public Library (all locations), ING, First American Bank (all 7 metro locations), Des Moines Education Association, Grounds for Celebration (Beaverdale), Iowa Department of Economic Development, Iowa National Guard, Meredith Corporation, New York Life Insurance, and the Science Center. Books can also be donated at the Everybody Wins! Iowa office (4114 Allison Ave., Des Moines). Contact Everybody Wins! Iowa for the location nearest you! The Young Professionals Connection will hold their monthly Social Networking Hour at Alba Restaurant, 524 East 6th Street in the East Village. In addition to networking, representatives from the Animal Rescue League will be on hand to share information about how to get involved with ARL. The event will run from 5:30-7:30PM.

Comedian Joel Fry brings his stand up comedy to the stage at The House of Bricks, 525 East Grand in the East Village. Joining him on stage will be Jack Lewis, Gideon Hambright and Wes Cozad. Get ready to laugh at 9:30PM. Cover is $5.

Mark your calendars for Saturday, September 11th and come out to Simon Estes Amphitheater for ROCK & TOSS benefiting Central Iowa Shelter & Services! This inaugural event includes a bean bag tournament and a free rock concert beginning at 1:00 pm. Top three places in the tournament will win CASH PRIZES! $200 for 1st, $100 for 2nd and $50 for 3rd! Bands include Autumn Project, Superchief, Shades, The Druids, Cirrus Minor and Johnny Reeferseed and the High Rollers! Also the Iowa vs. Iowa State game will be shown in our game tent! The mission is to provide free shelter and meals to homeless adults regardless of physical or emotional conditions, and to facilitate their move toward self-sufficiency.
